Cut Costs Of Using Your Mobile In Europe

October 5th, 2005 | POSTED BY ROB

The European Commission has launched a new website that helps to give you information about how much you are likely to pay for using your mobile phone whilst travelling on the Continent. The site aims to help cut your costs by giving you more information about the tarrifs you are likely to be charged, and gives a couple of ideas about how to reduce them, such as checking whether your phone operator has a holiday tarrif. Fortunately, there are also moves afoot to actually regulate the charges themselves, but more transparency is a start.

Not only are charges unbelievably high, they are also inconsistent across the member countries:

According to the website, British tourists in Italy are charged 50% more for mobile calls made and received there than French tourists.
