Barclaycard Punish Customers For Paying Full Balance

February 5th, 2006

In a move that seems downright sneaky to me, Barclaycard are moving payment dates forward for customers who pay off their credit card bills in full each month. In an article on the BBC website, a spokesman is quoted as saying that Barclaycard are:

having to face up to the fact that clearly we are not making as much money out of customers that pay their bill in full as we are out of those that borrow

Well, it’s refreshing that they’re honest about fleecing their customers, I’m all for transparency. The spokesman goes on to say:

Once we recognise that someone is regularly paying their bill in full, we will shorten the time that they have got to pay a little…

He also suggests that you set up a direct debit to pay at least the minimum amount on your card. I’d suggested finding a new credit card.
