MoneySavingExpert.com Under Attack

October 29th, 2007 | POSTED BY ROB

If you’ve tried to visit the MoneySavingExpert website today, you may have noticed that the server is struggling to return any pages.

Whilst I’d like to take the blame for sending it so much traffic from my top money saving sites post, unfortunately it would appear that the downtime is down to a “denial of service” attack - basically a load of computers have been programmed to send lots of requests to the MSE server which can slow down or even stop any other legitimate requests getting through.

Apparently this had been going on since Friday evening - let’s hope that it’s back online and functioning at full speed very soon.

Update at 13.19 on 29th October: Looks like service has returned on some parts of the site, although the forums are still suffering from the attack. Martin Lewis has posted some more information about the attack.
