Ideas For A Cheaper Valentine’s Day

Well, we’re a couple of days away from Valentine’s Day, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be trying to think of ideas for pleasing your loved one on a budget. We’ve pretty much decided to save money and not buy anything for each other this year, but I’m now in that awkward situation where we’ve said we’re not buying anything, but I think I should buy something. But all of the normal ideas and gifts tend to be pretty expensive.

So what can you do for Valentine’s day if you’re on a tight budget?

Trent at The Simple Dollar has some good ideas – I particularly like the idea of taking time off together, although at this point it might be difficult to get the time off at such short notice.

I think the key for me is to do something different – something as simple as taking a walk in the park together (the weather has been cold but beautifully bright for the last couple of days – very romantic!) could be a good idea.

It’s often best to avoid the traditional Valentine’s purchase, such as roses, as you’ll find yourself paying way over the odds because of the demand and because florists know they can sell them at such high prices on this occasion. Why not get a print of one of your favourite photos and buy a nice frame? Or why not search Flickr for a great shot that you can take off to a high street photo developers for a print?

What ideas do you have for a cheap Valentine’s Day (other than not celebrating it!)?
