ABI “Save More Now” Scheme

July 16th, 2006 | POSTED BY ROB

The Association of British Insurers (ABI), which represents most of the companies providing the U.K.’s pensions, has started a Save More Now campaign in order to “raise public awareness of the need to save money now for a comfortable retirement”.

Save More Now is intended to raise public awareness of the importance of saving for retirement and the fact that by putting off saving, people will potentially lose out on thousands of pounds which could otherwise be invested in a long-term savings product.

Although I whole-heartedly agree that this is a worthy cause, the ABI, being the trade organisation for the insurance industry, obviously has a vested interest in people increasing their savings. I’m also not sure of the reach that the ABI will have with the “man-on-the-street”, which is where the work really needs to be done.
