A&L Scoops Current Account Double Honours

Alliance & Leicester’s Premier Direct account has won the Moneywise Best Current Account award for the second consecutive year.
The Alliance & Leicester Premier current account took second place, judged on the basis of customer service and competitive credit and debit interest rate.
“Alliance & Leicester’s fee free Premier Direct account has consistently offered a market leading credit interest rate, and highly competitive overdraft rates since its launch,” said Jeremy King of Moneywise.
“Taking this into consideration, alongside the first class customer service offered by Alliance & Leicester, Premier Direct emerged as the clear and deserved winner of Best Current Account 2006.
“Its branch-based account Premier, with free travel insurance and a competitive overdraft rate also scored well, taking second place.”
The online Premier Direct account offers the UK’s lowest overdraft rate at 5.9 per cent and an initial overdraft offer of zero per cent, and a credit interest rate of five per cent.
The Premier account also has an initial zero per cent overdraft rate, going up to 7.9 per cent, free travel insurance and a 1.50 per cent credit rate.
“It’s a double delight that Premier Direct has been recognised by Moneywise magazine as the UK’s best current account for the second year running,” said Helen Palmer of Alliance & Leicester.
