Sit Tight During British Gas Price Rises

July 28th, 2006

Well, British Gas has once again raised the price of its gas and electricity, and consumers will be once again panicking about looking for a cheaper supplier.

But possibly the best action you can take right now is to sit tight, wait for the other gas and electricity to companies to raise their prices (which they inevitably will), and then decide whether it’s worth switching suppliers. This could take a couple of months, but it’s pointless switching now only to find that your new supplier then decides to raise their prices by more than British Gas. In actual fact, both EDF Energy and Scottish Power raised their prices before British Gas.
The only people who should be thinking about switching now are those who have never switched their energy suppliers. They will probably find that there are already big savings to be had by moving their custom elsewhere.
