Wage Gap Between Men & Women

Some quite surprising figures (at least to me) are being quoted in a story on the BBC website, saying that on average, women earn 27% less than men in the U.K.

A survey by the salary site PayFinder suggests that the difference is biggest in London (surprise surprise), with the gap being a massive 35%.

Interestingly, this doesn’t appear to be to do with job choices or female job roles:

“Before anyone cites female job choice as a possible cause, PayFinder also shows that regardless of industry and indeed role, men still earn more than women.”

The survey also suggests that 66% of women were “too scared” to ask for a pay rise, compared with 25% of men.

I thought that the gender pay gap was becoming ever smaller, but it appears from these figures that there is still a long way to go before we have equality in salaries.
