Well this is just, great. If it’s not enough that we’ve seen massive rises in our energy bills, an expected rise in council tax, it now looks as if the water companies are starting to jump on the bandwagon too.
The BBC reports that water firm Severn Trent is imposing a rise of 5.7%, nearly 3 times the rate of inflation, from April. The average bill will rise from £253 annually to £267, which works out at 73p per day.
Whilst I don’t think the price per day is bad, compared with other utilities, it still seems like a big rise to happen in one go. Severn Trent is using the extra revenue it will gain by investing in maintenance for the water supply and improving drinking water quality, amongst other things.
