“World’s First” Contactless Payment Jacket

A new jacket from British fashion brand Lyle & Scott has a “contactless payment cuff” which allows you to make payments with a swipe of your wrist.

The jacket, which costs £150, has space in the sleeve for Barclaycard’s bPay chip, allowing you to pay for items up to £30 at contactless terminals.

Talking about the jacket on a BBC World Service radio programme, economist and technology expert Kenneth Cuckier said that this was “intended for people who are incredibly lazy, or don’t want to take their card out of their wallet”.

Late last year, Barclaycard announced they’d developed a contactless glove. Expect to see more wearable contactless payment garments in the near future.

So what do you think? Another gimmick, or are these type of wearable methods of payment going to stick around for the future? Let us know in the comments below.
