TescoCompare.com: Tesco Takes on Comparison Sites

I’ll be keeping a close eye on www.tescocompare.com tomorrow (14th Sep) as it should be the day that Tesco starts to take on the likes of MoneySupermarket.com, by launching a financial comparison website.

Tesco has launched its car insurance comparison service at www.tescocompare.com, which marks its first move into the financial comparison market.

Although the launch was scheduled for 14th Sep, it appears to be live already. Currently only comparing car insurance, it is thought that Tesco will be adding more products, such as credit cards and general insurance, in the future.

Tesco’s own financial services are provided by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), and their comparison service includes all of the following insurers:

That’s quite a list, but apparently it only covers about 75% of the market.

The service promises to allow you to compare on more than just price (i.e. policy details), which I think is a great idea, if done properly. I did start a quote to see how it worked, but I got bored by all of the questions , and got annoyed when it didn’t recognise my number plate as being valid (it’s a personal plate- sadly, it was personal to the previous owner!). I’ll be writing more about TescoCompare in the next few weeks, when I’ve had more of a look.
