Coming Soon: Scan Credit Cards With Your iPhone

The next generation of the Apple’s iOS operating system (iOS8) will have a new feature allowing you to quickly enter your credit card number in to websites simply by scanning your card.

Apple website 9To5Mac has spotted that a new feature will appear in Safari, when it comes across an appropriate form, which allows you to scan your credit card with your iPhone camera to quickly enter the card number.

This should take some hassle out of buying items whilst on your phone. Whilst the security conscious will be worried about having photos of their credit cards sitting around on their phones, I suspect the scan will only be used to fill in the form, and the credit card number will not be stored in anyway unless you’ve agreed to let the browser store the information.

Card.io developed a similar tool which was subsequently purchase by PayPal.
