More Tips For Saving Petrol

With the price of petrol going up, it seems that more and more people are looking to find ways to cut down on petrol use. I’m also noticing a fair few people coming to this site from Google searches to do with fuel efficiency, so as a follow to my previous petrol saving tips post, I thought I’d post a few links to some more information that might be useful.

There was an interesting question submitted to Ask Yahoo (which is worth keeping an eye on as there are some very interesting subjects covered away from Personal Finance / Money) – what’s the ideal speed for maximum fuel efficiency? The answer is approximately 55 m.p.h. (90 k.p.h.).

A couple more tips (that weren’t covered in my previous post on this):

  • Plan trips and consolidate them – why take your car out on two journeys when you may be able to combine them in one?
  • Coast a lot – hmmm… a favourite of my dad, but not thought to be good driving practiceI don’t think, as if you coast out of gear you lose engine braking.
  • On manual gear boxes, always shift up the gears as soon as you can
