Graduates Find Homes Unaffordable

The BBC mentions a report by Scottish Widows shows that two-thirds of graduates under 30 do not own their own home (count me amongst that group), and that two-thirds of that group think that house prices are unaffordable (again, count me in).

The report also suggests an increase in the number of family and friends who are helping graduates onto the property ladder, perhaps by being guarantors for mortgages.

Many of those surveyed mentioned that the cost of paying back their student loans / debts was stopping them being able to afford to buy a house. For me it is really just high house prices that are the problem, as I was fortunate enough to leave university without a great amount of debt (still a few thousand pounds though).
