MoneyExpert: Visa Vouchers ‘just Like Using A Credit Card’

A new voucher scheme has been launched to “help beat the fraudsters”, by providing a method of payment similar to using a normal credit card.

The 3V Vouchers are a way to pay online or on the telephone “safely and securely” and can be bought in newsagent or shops with the Payzone symbol.

In collaboration with Visa, the vouchers have been created to dispose of the need to use a debit or credit card online, which can carry the risk of fraud and identity theft.

Customers apply for a free card online, which they can then top-up with credit and use for purchases. Each voucher has a unique security code, while a corresponding code is sent to the buyer’s email account or mobile phone.

This way, the vouchers carry a low risk of being cloned or used for fraudulent purposes, as both sets of information are needed to make a transaction.

Research from 3V found that almost a fifth of adults in the UK are reluctant to shop online amid fears of credit card fraud, reports Computer Business Review Online.

The pay-as-you-go voucher is available to anyone over the age of 16.
