There is no Guinness Book of World Averages. We love to see who can run fastest, lift the heaviest weight or hurl a dinner plate the furthest at the Olympics. Having a laugh at the Eddie The Eagle Edwards of the sports world is the icing on the cake.
You’d think the City would be even more competitive, yet watching share indices must be the only sport where the everybody’s focus is on the average. The FTSE100 is saddled up like the mare in a one horse town so that we can peer out of the window as she goes past and see what her form is today….
