MoneyExpert: CCJ Map Of UK Revealed

An average of two CCJs were registered for every 100 adults in England and Wales over the past year says new research – but this is as much as three times higher in some areas.

The survey, conducted by MyCallcredit, found that Purfleet in Essex rates as the UK’s insolvency capital, with six CCJs per every 100 adults.

Overall, 750,000 CCJs have been registered in England and Wales since September 2005.

“Our research found that 55 per cent of the population lives in postcode areas where no CCJs were recorded in the last twelve months,” said Mel Mitchley of MyCallcredit.

“We also found that those postcodes with the highest numbers of CCJs per head of population tended to share certain demographic characteristics.”

“But a combination of record levels of personal debt combined with the recent interest rate rise could mean that over the next year we start to see CCJs in neighbourhoods that have so far been unaffected.”

Of the top twenty 20 towns most hit by CCJs, eight were in the Midlands, four were in east England, three were in London, three were in Yorkshire and the Humber and two were in the North.
