Emma Simon at the Telegraph is reporting about a new banking scam (at least it’s new to me), which I think needs publicising, as it could catch a few people out.
Apparently scamsters are ringing shops and restaurants pretending to be their banks, telling the staff that their systems are down and that their customers will need to give them payment details over the phone in order to pay. As Emma puts it, although most of us are generally pretty wary about giving out our details over the phone, we are less likely to question it coming from a shop assistant or restaurant manager.
Just another scam to be wary of to go along with the plethora of email phishing attempts that I seem to get.
