Santander customers with a current or savings account can now receive text messages notifying them about their balance and transactions.
The new text service has four functions:
- To notify when their account receives a large deposit or a high value credit, for example letting them know that their salary has gone into their account each month.
- To notify when a customer’s account is approaching a pre-selected balance. Customers can set their own amount down to £1.
- To notify when a high value debit, like mortgage payments, leave a customer’s account (minimum £50 or more).
- To notify when a customer’s balance  goes over a certain amount. Again, this can be set by the customer themself.
Other banks, such as Natwest, Lloyds and First Direct have offered similar SMS alerts for a while, but this new feature should help Santander customers keep better track of their money.
If you are a Santander customer, you need to be registered for online banking to setup your text alerts.
How do I get the them? I can’t find it anywhere on the Santander website!
Welcome to the 21st century to our technologically advanced banks in the UK. In Africa, a significant proportion of banking is done by mobile phones.
Does this feature work on International numbers? I can’t do the online banking b/c I’m using a US Mobile phone number. The texts that you need to respond to to complete the transaction never make it to my US IPhone . Anyone know why?
